| How to Freeze the Top Tier of your Wedding Cake for your First Anniversary The top tier of your wedding cake can taste as good as (or almost!) the day of your wedding if you know how to freeze it properly. Follow these steps to help ensure the freshness of your top tier. It is important to note that the cake MUST have been a fresh cake, not previously frozen by the baker, in this case, me. All of my cakes are baked fresh to order, and never frozen. If the cake as been previously frozen, it will NOT taste good if you refreeze it. Step 1 Flash freeze your cake by putting it in the freezer for 20 minutes. You can also refrigerate the cake overnight; this step will firm up the icing. Step 2 Wrap the cake in clear plastic wrap making sure to seal the cake with the plastic wrap. Smooth out / reduce any air bubbles as necessary. Step 3 Put the cake back in the box and tape the box shut completely with freezer tape. Step 4 Wrap the box completely with clear plastic wrap making sure to seal the box with the wrap. Step 5 Wrap the box completely in aluminum foil, and place in freezer. If these steps are followed, your cake should taste almost as good as on the day of your wedding. Here's toasting to your first year together! When you are ready to eat the preserved wedding cake..... Step 1 Remove aluminum foil and plastic from the box and cake. Step 2 Thaw cake in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours. Step 3 Remove cake from the refrigerator and leave at room temperature for 2 more hours. Step 4 Slice and enjoy! |
